We hope you have all enjoyed the half term and are looking forward to the run up to Christmas! Apologies for such a long newsletter!!
So far the children have been busy designing a Christmas card which has been sent off and made into cards, gift wrap & gifts etc. They should be back this week for you to purchase if you wish.
Lots of children have started making new friendships and their confidence has grown. They are all becoming familiar with our ‘rules’ and routine.
We receive quite a few guidelines and advice from early year’s experts relating to children’s development and various tips on all aspects of bringing up children. We thought we would share them with you and have a ‘Top Tips’ section on our whiteboard for you to read. This term was to encourage your children to use their words rather than pointing or murmuring. We are constantly encouraging the children to ask, for example at lunch time when they just hand us their packets to open, they also have to ask!
We have also being given a text number to the local Health visitors team for you the parent. If you need any help or advice you can text them & they will contact you. There are drop in sessions in Hedge End you can go to for advice. Ask Jacqui or Lynn for details.
We like to support Children in Need each year. This year we thought each child could bring in their teddy (labelled with their name) and we will hold a Teddy Bear picnics at snack/lunch time each day. Week beginning Monday 12th November. A contribution pot will be available if you would like to make a donation towards Children in Need. Thank you.
Due to the large amount of children we have this year and the size of St Thomas’ Church we felt it would be more beneficial & enjoyable for the children & their families to invite just the older children (children going to school next year) to take part in our Nativity.
This year’s Nativity service is at St. Thomas’ Church has been booked for Monday 10th December, 10am start. The church have very kindly offered to collect a group of children each day in their mini bus for rehearsals! If you are at all concerned about this arrangement please come and speak to Jacqui or Lynn.
For the performance please could your child come dressed as a character from the Nativity story I.e. Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Kings, Angels, Donkey, Sheep etc. Coffee, mince pies and the Christmas raffle will be held at preschool afterwards. Donations for the raffle will be very much appreciated. There is no pre-school session on this day. The younger ones will of course be able to participate next year.
Also with this in mind we have decided to hold two separate Christmas parties one for the younger and one for the older children:
For the younger children (children not going to school next year) On Thursday 13th December at 1.30 we will be having JiggyWrigglers in to entertain us with a Christmas session. Those children not usually in are invited in for 1.30. The children will be receiving invites soon. If your child normally attends on a Thursday afternoon they are still able to on this day. This is the last day of term for the younger ones.
On Friday 14th December our older children (children going to school next year) we will be having Maraca Jacks entertain them. They will need to be at pre-school at 0945 for a 10am start. We ask parents to return at 11.45 for a few Christmas songs and a visit from Father Christmas. Invites will be sent out soon.
Pre-school does not run an afternoon session on this day.
As the same as last year we are asking all parents to provide a labelled Christmas present of no more than £5 for their own child. Please could we have the present by Friday 7th December. We will also be asking you to provide a party snack for your child only to eat at the party. They usually eat at about 11am, so it isn’t lunch. Crisps/biscuits, fruit or yoghurt and a drink will be ample.
We have decided not to hold a sponsor activity this year but to ask for a £3 per child towards the cost of the entertainers for the Christmas party. Please can this be in by Friday 7th December. Any problems with this please come & see Jacqui or Lynn.
We are always grateful for any help received so feel free to write your name on the parent ‘Stay & Play’ board. Please don’t feel you have to stay for a whole session. We would really like some help with cooking activities with the children. If you have any spare time & enjoy cooking please come in.
Lastly we would like to have a separate ‘coat’ trolley & a separate ‘bag’ trolley. Once parents have left we will be moving them into the small room by the back door. To make it easier for the children to select their own coats etc. Please also ensure you put in gloves hats wellies & wet weather suits if they have them.
If you have any questions on any of the above information please come and speak to one of us.
